Biography
Robert Couhig, Jr. is the Founder and Partner Emeritus of Couhig Partners and one of Louisiana’s most seasoned trial lawyers. Over the course of five decades, he has tried more than 200 jury trials across multiple states, handling major civil matters including class actions, products liability, antitrust disputes, commercial litigation, regulatory matters, and complex contracts cases.
He has also represented clients in significant general civil actions and served as pro bono counsel in major criminal defense cases, including capital matters.
Mr. Couhig has argued before every Louisiana appellate court, including multiple matters before the Louisiana Supreme Court, as well as four different Federal Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the United States, where he prevailed in a precedent-setting maritime case.
His practice also includes representing individuals and businesses in Louisiana regulatory matters and advising companies through turnaround situations.
He has held the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating for 45 years.
Business & Investment Leadership
Mr. Couhig has played a significant role in business development and investment leadership, including:
Creating and leading investments in multiple sports and facility projects, including New Orleans’ first Triple-A baseball team and stadium
Developing tennis facilities and investing in three English Football League clubs
Serving as Chairman and lead investor of Reading Football Club
Acting as lead investor in several small, primarily minority-owned businesses
Publishing books and producing multiple plays
Personal
Resides outside St. Francisville, Louisiana, with his wife of 24 years, Missy.
They own and operate one of the state’s top independent bookstores.
Father of two sons, Rob III and Benjamin, with two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren: Jack, Corbin, and Grace Marcelle.
