Jonathan P. Lemann

Biography

Jonathan P. Lemann is a lifelong New Orleanian who was raised in a lawyer family. He has been dissecting issues and crafting arguments his whole life. He brings a deep commitment to the trial process and a practical, client-centered approach to litigation. He is known for balancing level-headed counsel with vigorous advocacy on behalf of his clients.

Jonathan has a diverse practice.  He maintains an insurance defense practice, a professional liability practice, and serves as the firm’s ethics and professional responsibility counsel.  He has significant experience in class actions.  He also serves on the Criminal Justice Act panel for the Eastern District of Louisiana providing counsel to indigent defendants. Historically, however, his primary focus has been in commercial litigation, representing parties in matters involving breach of contract, directors’ and officers’ liability, fiduciary duty claims, intellectual property issues, business torts, partnership, membership, and shareholder disputes, construction disputes, and employment discrimination. He has significant experience trying cases in both federal and state courts and has appeared in numerous arbitrations. 

Jonathan has recovered millions for his business clients. He served as national class counsel on behalf of hundreds of physicians that were victimized in a Ponzi scheme. He frequently guides clients through messy business breakups or dissolutions. He most recently served as part of the Couhig Partners team that secured a novel class action settlement on behalf of nursing home residents who were improvidently evacuated in advance of Hurricane Ida. He also led his firm’s efforts to obtain two jury “zero” verdicts in high-stakes “bet-the-company” litigation in Jefferson and Bossier parishes.

Jonathan has represented Fortune 500 companies but typically represents small to mid-sized businesses across a wide range of industries, including physician and nursing groups, insurance, financing companies, jewelry wholesalers, bail bondsmen, and professional sports franchises. He considers it a privilege to be able to enter the world of such a diverse group of business people and learn a bit about their trade.  Jonathan particularly values those aspects of his practice that allow him to help real people solve real problems.
